How Can I Tell If My Suspension Needs Work?

There are several visible or audible signs that can tell you that your suspension may have been damaged if you know what to look for and listen for.

• Look at tire treads to see if there is an unusual pattern of tread wear called cupping.
• You can see visible oil or grease or obvious wear on shocks and struts.
• “Bounce Test” failure: for this you need to lean all your body weight on the front of your parked vehicle and quickly step back. If the vehicle bounces more than once, it may mean a problem with shocks or struts.

• When you brake or turn, you hear squeaking.
• You notice that your ride feels rougher than usual.

• The car leans backward, forward, or to one side when you brake.
• Your vehicle’s front end takes a nosedive when you brake.
• When you accelerate, the rear end of your vehicle drags on the surface you are driving on.
